Q. Who picks out the horse?
A. All horses are selected by many of the industries top agents/trainers including Kenny Mcpeek. As most of you know Kenny has won many prestigous races in his short career. View his website to see all of this information.www.mcpeekracing.com
Q. How are the partnerships structured.
A. All partnerships will be put together as an LLC
Q. What about insurance on the horse?
A. All owners have the option to insure their percentage of the horse or not for mortality. Typical yearling cost for insurance is 3% of the value of the horse and the following year when it is racing as a 2 year old it is around 5%. As managing partner i take care of this for anyone that is interested.
Q. When will the horse run?
A. If the horse is bought as a yearling it will normally go to Ocala, Florida, or Laredo Texas and begin being "broke" around September 1. Based on how well it progresses it will begin galloping, jogging etc. Sometime around late January of the next year it will begin to hopefully show some talent and "breeze" for the first time. The horse will tell us when it is ready to advance to our trainer from the conditioning in Florida or Texas. Some cases could be as soon as April and other cases may be August - October.
Q. What tracks do the horses normally race at?
A. Normal areas that we race are. Kentucky tracks, New York, Florida, Chicago, Philadelphia and depending on how well your horse performs it could be shipped to any track in the U.S. or we have had horses run in Dubai. It all depends on how talented our horses are and where the BIG races are running.
Q. How much money does it cost to enter a race.
A. Normal claiming or allowance races it cost nothing to enter. If your horse shows that it is capable of Stakes races it is normally 1 or 2% of the purse to enter. Example: if the purse is $100,000 it would cost the horses $2,000 to make it in that race.
Q. How can i be involved with the horse once i become a partner?
A. My style of leading the partnership is that i want everyone to be a part of the action if that is your desire. I will set up times we can meet at the sale before we buy the horse and be a part of the auction, see the horse workout in the mornings at the track,or go to Florida and see the horse being brought up as a yearling. I gladly will coordinate any and all of these activities. That is the fun part of being an owner and i want everyone to enjoy that experience.
